What is BeReal?

How does the BeReal app work?

Every day, users get a random-time message that reads, "Time to BeReal." The user now has a two-minute opportunity to share a photo of what they are doing right now. This is done in order to take an unaltered, genuine picture of the user's life.

Users who post after the two-minute time has passed will be seen as late and won't be allowed to view other users' photos until after they have uploaded. Users will also get access to the app's Discover section after posting.

Users can take more images, but the app will track how often they do so. The software also displays how many times a user attempted to capture a BeReal moment.

The app does not include a "like" button, but users may respond to other postings by using a RealMoji, which is a selfie-based emoji that mimics an emoji reply. Videos cannot be posted on the app, and there are no filters or edit options. The app does not show follower counts and advertisements.
